New Spring FLX Locavore Dinner Menu at the Rogues' Harbor Inn

Image
Southwestern Quinoa Salad The new spring menu seems to have arrived just in time for some stellar 70 degree sunny Finger Lakes days. We've developed some new locally sourced dishes with healthy summer living in mind. Whether your eating choices are dictated by taste alone or health, allergies, morals, politics....we have made an extra effort to offer something for everyone. They're even labelled on the menu for you: vegetarian, vegan, GF (gluten free). As always it's all locally sourced, globally inspired, fresh, made right here, real food (no trans fats, no MSG, no, no, no, none of that processed junk masquerading as food). For new appetizers we have a Mediterranean Flat Bread made with hand tossed dough, wild garlic pesto, tomatoes and Lively Run Feta cheese. It's vegetarian. We also added  our Roasted Garlic Hummus which is served with a quick grilled multi-grain baguette, vegan. Oh, I almost forgot the Sweet Potato Wedges. They're sprinkled with a little co...

Rogues' Harbor Inn Loves Finger Lakes Fresh

Image
Finger Lakes Fresh Boston Lettuce We love all things local here at Rogues'. Sometimes our devotion is challenging here in the not always warm and sunny Finger Lakes. Summer and fall are abundant with fresh local produce: herbs, salad greens, peaches, apples, corn.... Come February, we're down to root vegetables and possibly kale. Not that we have anything against root vegetables, but we do need our leafy greens. So, we were pretty happy to find Finger Lakes Fresh just a few miles up the road from us.They grow the most beautiful lettuce and arugula, year round, hydroponically in green houses. A write up in our favorite local magazine, Edible Finger Lakes , lead us to them. "Finger Lakes Fresh specialize in hydroponics (derived from the Greek words for water and labor), a method of farming that delivers nutrients to plants in a water solution, without soil, to produce pesticide-free greens. Their greenhouses are clear-domed structures that use solar radiation to wa...

Easter Dinner 2013 in Ithaca, NY, the Heart of the Finger Lakes

Image
Easter signals spring in the Finger Lakes. I've already seen signs. Snow drops and winter aconite in the garden are blooming and the tips of daffodils are coming up through the thawing soil. Our spring menu is in the works, spring Bock beer is being kegged and even the return of a snow bird staff member, KC! Of course, our Easter dinner specials are planned too. We'll be serving Easter dinner all day from noon til 8 pm on Sunday, March 31st. Fresh, local and spring inspired is the theme as always. Chefs Andy and Jeff are preparing a local organic Berkshire ham from Blue Heron Acres with a bourbon and brown sugar glace. It really is the tastiest ham on earth. Our spring Brewer's Choice, Bock beer, would pair well with it.   Bock is historically associated with special occasions, often religious festivals such as Christmas, Easter or Lent. Bocks have a long history of being brewed and consumed by Bavarian monks as a source of nutrition during times of fasting.    Ours is c...

Can't Wait for St. Patrick's Day 2013 in Ithaca, NY!

Image
It's nearly March 17th. One of my favorite days of the year. As you may have guessed, I'm Irish. It was one of my Dad's favorite days of the year, too. While I was in college he always sent me a few bucks for St. Patrick's Day. The card always read, "Here's a little pocket money for the day. Miss you." No need to mention which day. We both knew. He would occasionally miss my birthday, but he never, never missed St. Patrick's Day. It was important since we lived far apart that we each raise a glass at the same time that day and have a beer together- even if I was in Boston or Ithaca and he was in D.C.  The tradition continues here at Rogues' even though Dad's been gone for many years. We'll have lots and lots of beer on hand. All of our own craft brews along with Guinness, Harp, Cortland's Industrial IPA...I think our Cayuga Cream Ale goes best with Corned Beef and Cabbage. But, we did offer pairing suggestions on our specials menu for ...

Pints for Pups an SPCA Fundraiser at Rogues'

Image
We love beer. We love dogs. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. We even make dog biscuits from our spent brewing grain, aka Brewscuits. $1 from the sale of every bag benefits the Tompkins SPCA. Every year we plan a fundraiser for our Tompkins SPCA, and this year's event will bring our two favorite things together, beer and dogs. We've decided on Thursday, February 21, 6 - 9 pm on the first floor of the inn and our brew house.  There'll be six local micro brewers pouring samples of their craft brews, including the Rogues' Harbor Brewing Co, Roosterfish Brewing, Bandwagon Brews, Cortland Beer, Bacchus Brewing and Wagner Valley Brewing. Yum. We'll be pouring our latest Brewer's Choice, American Barley Wine Style Beer , for the first time that evening as well as offering tours of our brew house. Thursdays are Live Music Nights at Rogues' too; so there will be live music in the brew house by Space Train and live music in our pub by Mike Thuesen. T...

Valentine's Day 2013 at the Rogues' Harbor Inn, Ithaca

Image
Valentine's Day is Thursday, February 14. Mark it on your calendar guys. This is important. This is your moment to shine. It doesn't take too much effort to make the day special- you just have to remember which day. Take your sweet heart to dinner, maybe buy a rose or a shiny object (we all love shiny objects..). But, do something. We're here to help. Our big plans for Valentine's Day are all in the works and it's a bright day in an otherwise cold, grey month in the Finger Lakes. We have our economical weekday winter rate of $109 available for the B and B rooms that evening. So have a few glasses of wine with dinner by the fire and then just walk upstairs to your elegant room. We can even arrange to have flowers and chocolate waiting for you. Dinner can be 4 courses or just a quick bite and a pint. It's all up to you.Chef Jeff and Chef Andy enjoy the day and they love creating specials to offer that evening and throughout the weekend. Their dinner specials wi...
