Easter Dinner 2013 in Ithaca, NY, the Heart of the Finger Lakes
Easter signals spring in the Finger Lakes. I've already seen signs. Snow drops and winter aconite in the garden are blooming and the tips of daffodils are coming up through the thawing soil. Our spring menu is in the works, spring Bock beer is being kegged and even the return of a snow bird staff member, KC! Of course, our Easter dinner specials are planned too.
We'll be serving Easter dinner all day from noon til 8 pm on Sunday, March 31st. Fresh, local and spring inspired is the theme as always. Chefs Andy and Jeff are preparing a local organic Berkshire ham from Blue Heron Acres with a bourbon and brown sugar glace. It really is the tastiest ham on earth. Our spring Brewer's Choice, Bock beer, would pair well with it. Bock is historically associated with special occasions, often religious festivals such as Christmas, Easter or Lent. Bocks have a long history of being brewed and consumed by Bavarian monks as a source of nutrition during times of fasting. Ours is clear with a copperish brown body and a bountiful and persistent off-white head. The taste is rich and toasty, with a bit of caramel.
