We are feeling very pleased with our new (and long overdue) entry.
We are honored to know a local master craftsman that resurfaced the concrete steps, repaired the decorative woodwork, repaired the roof, and forged two wrought iron railings. It's very rewarding to repair/replace things on this beautiful building and make them look like they once did with quality design, materials and craftsmanship. It's always a challenge to decide (and budget) what is worth keeping or replicating and what isn't. We usually decide to keep or replicate. We want everything to look as original as possible. We had to have two columns replaced/replicated. We think they look spot on. Maybe we are the only ones that know which are new...and we think the wrought iron railings are much like what would have been in place originally.
We should post "before" photos, but it was ugly. We always focus on the positive and progress, so we are only posting the demo, in progress, and the beautiful completed project.
Happy summer!

Room 9 was just refreshed and redecorated: new beautiful king size brass bed, new cute farmhouse distressed night stands, new table and ladder back chairs (with funky blue and white modern fabric seats), fresh paint all around, new cushy carpet, gorgeous East Lake marble top dresser, and even new room darkening drapes.
I do love to refresh guest rooms. To see the finished room and to have guests love it as much as I do is a wonderful feeling.
We always have a list of winter (slow season) projects, but this was my favorite this year. It's a hit with guests too :)RoguesHarborInnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08063320877579620300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1365356726006257178.post-79910897774012472252021-12-26T07:49:00.005-08:002021-12-26T07:52:51.847-08:00Happy New Year! Minier was born September 30, 1794 in Lansing, NY. His father Abram settled his growing family, wife Rachel & eventually 9 children, in Lansing from Elmira in 1793 after purchasing 600 acres of military lot 87 from Captain Van Rensselaer of Albany.
*General Minier served in the 50th Infantry Brigade of the New York State Militia during the war of 1812 . He served until 1836 when it is believed the Hotel began operating.
*General Minier began building the Central Exchange Hotel (aka the Rogues' Harbor Inn) in 1830 on 5 acres of land in Libertyville (now known as South Lansing) along the stage coach line from Albany to Buffalo where the horses were exchanged- hence the name Central Exchange Hotel. From Libertyville (South Lansing) stages went to King Ferry and were barged across the lake to Kidder's Point, then onto Ovid and points West.
*According to Alice Bristol, "History of the Town of Lansing", the original floor plan for the Hotel was: the first floor had a bar, a store, a grill, a dining room and a sitting room. The second floor was divided into bedrooms. The North West corner was said to be called the Governor's Suite where William Henry Seward would stay on occasion. Most of the third floor was a large ballroom.
*The ballroom held many political meetings and social gatherings some of which have been described in articles in the Ithaca Journal & General Advertiser. From these articles it is known that General Minier was the Chairman of the Free Soil Party, Chairman of the County Board of Canvassers & Inspectors of Elections, and served as Lansing's Town Supervisor 1837-1840.
* 7 years after the Hotel's entire completion, General Minier died October 8, 1849 . He remained a bachelor so upon his passing the Hotel was left to one of his brothers. General Minier is buried at the Asbury Cemetery just one mile from his Hotel.

<div aria-owns="sharing-popup-Blog1-byline-7181053489688677321" class="sharing" data-title="General Daniel D.
We all have begun to adjust to our new Covid 19 reality and yet we have already grown tired of ceaseless masked selfie posts and perpetual Covid 19 email updates. But, we need to share information with you about what we are doing at the Inn to protect our guests and ourselves. We want to let you know what procedures are in place. Some are new, some aren't. We may update these procedures as new NYS mandates & information become available. So, here we go:

- All staff will be temperature tested prior to their arrival at the inn. Any staff members with a temperature, any symptoms what so ever, or known exposure will not be working until proof of a negative test result is presented.

- All staff wear masks at all times while at the inn.

- All staff wear masks & gloves while cooking, serving breakfast and cleaning.

- All staff maintain a social distance of six feet from others whenever possible.

- Any guests with symptoms or known exposure should NOT check-in & reschedule their stay.

- Guests can self swipe or chip read their credit card at check-in. The card reader will be sanitized after every transaction.

- All guests must wear a mask while in any common area of the inn.

- All guests must maintain a social distance of six feet from others in common areas whenever possible (unless you're travelling together).

- Breakfast is served in two seatings in order to allow for social distancing. Seatings will be at 8:15 am and 9:15 am. There will not be any buffet; all breakfast items will be offered and served if desired. Please let us know your preferred seating time at check-in.

- All dishes and utensils are run through a sanitizing rinse.

- Daily room housekeeping is optional.

- Room cleaning: replacement of all cloth bedding materials including pillow protectors & mattress pad, replacement of shower curtain, sanitizing of all surfaces, handles, switches, & remotes.

-Any stuffed furniture in guest rooms has been replaced with furniture that can be sanitized (yet still comfy).

- Surfaces in common areas are sanitized several times daily.

- Hand sanitizer is available in all common areas.

We appreciate your understanding & cooperation while we collectively adjust to the "new normal." Be well. We look forward to seeing you soon. Sadly, you will be unable to see our smile beneath our mask, but it will be there.

UPDATE:
Per NYS Mandate on November 1, 2020 by NY Governor Cuomo we are able to welcome guests from all NY contiguous states. Visitors from all other states are subject to the following guidelines:

Well, it's been about 3 1/2 years since I last posted. A lot has happened. As most of you know, I sold the Rogues' Harbor Inn in December 2015 to pursue my life long dream of designing and fabricating fine jewelry. It was a bittersweet goodbye. I really loved Rogues', but I had to pursue my dream and the rigorous schedule of operating the inn, restaurant & brewery were just not allowing me to do that.

I have had the privilege for the past three years of working with Fareed Abdulky, master jeweler of 55 years, at Carla Bijouterie in Ithaca. It has been wonderful.

Now, Rogues' has lured me back. I have always loved it, and I think it loves me.

My plan is to remain at Carla Bijouterie and operate the inn. I would like to lease out the restaurant space and there a few truly excellent operators considering it (stay tuned). Of course, Salt Point Brewing is doing a fabulous job with their place next door and they will be there until their new facility around the corner is ready.

I feel at home. I cant wait to share with all of you all of the wonderful things to come.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (if I can ever reset the password...) for up to the minute news.

See you soon,

I missed you,

We are honored to join forces and make it a celebration- Finger Lakes Cider Week 2015.
Our chefs have created several hearty, apple inspired dishes plus we will be serving: Eve's Cidery's (Trumansburg, NY) Beckhorn Hollow, Original Sin's Hard Cider and Hazlitt's (Hector, NY) Cider Tree. Don't worry if you're not a hard cider person. Our brewers at Stouthearted have brewed two incredible IPAs which we think pair well with all our apple inspired offerings: Black IPA and Lemon Drop IPA.
Apple growers, cideries and restaurants have come together for Finger Lakes Cider Week to bring you the best eating and drinking of the year. It's October 2 - 11. Don't miss it!
Yippeeee! It's finally warm. Our favorite time of year and food are here- locally sourced and super fresh. Chef Vincent has outdone himself with our new spring dinner offerings. As always, we suggest wine and beer pairings with all our locally sourced, globally inspired dinners.
Some new sources are: The Piggery (pulled pork), Cayuga Pure Organics (polenta), Gray Rabbit's Farm (salad greens). My favorite new offerings are the Piggery Pulled Pork with Sun-Dried Tomato Polenta (GF) paired with our Stouthearted's Cayuga Cream Ale or Goosewatch's Pinot Grigio, and the Cajun Grilled Vegetable Flatbread (vegan) paired with our Stouthearted's East Shore Pale Ale or Long Point's Ciera Dry Rose. The whole menu is on our restaurant page http://www.roguesharbor.com/restaurant/menu.
Feels so good to be serving outside on our porch again. Enjoy heavenly summer in the Finger Lakes (we all know it won't last forever...)RoguesHarborInnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08063320877579620300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1365356726006257178.post-27964999745053532262015-03-22T17:19:00.001-07:002015-03-22T17:19:09.986-07:00Locally Sourced Easter Dinner Features Rogues' Harbor Inn, Ithaca, NYIt's finally spring, I think. It's true. Southern fried deliciousness has traveled 5 miles North of Ithaca and a long way from home to hang out at the Rogues' Harbor Inn. Chefs Anthony & Big Moe are cooking up all things southern fried every Wednesday: southern fried wings with mac n cheese, southern fried steak with mashers & slaw, southern fried catfish sammies, and... there will be pie. Yes, pie.
We start serving at 5 pm. So, get here early before today's southern fried feature sells out. FYI, today is Wednesday.
